Let's Slow Down The Fashion Industry

Wondering how we can really fight fashion? Let's Slow Down this February. The 'LSD' event is a great opportunity to shop from amazing slow fashion brands, join workshops to upcycle and mend your clothes, hear talks by industry experts and influencers and take part in a clothes swap. It'll be slow, sustainable and stylish.

The Boiler House is putting an eco friendly twist on London Fashion Week this year by inviting you to the 'Let's Slow Down' event. In reply to fast fashion practices, this week is a conscious celebration of and exploration into where our clothes come from, how they're made, what becomes of them when they reach the end of their lives and how all this impacts the environment. 

There will be 30 sustainable fashion brands trading on site, so be sure to bring your wallets to make some ethical purchases. 

Here's the rundown of what you can look forward to:

Lets Slow Down The Fashion Industry Sewing

You don't need any prior experience to join a sewing workshop.

Join A Clothes Upcycling Workshop

You don't need any prior sewing experience to have a go at this workshop. 

Just bring some old clothes along with you and skilled practitioners will show you how some invaluable upcycling techniques using a sewing machine.

Both events will run on Sunday 16th or 23rd Feb, from 12pm-1.30pm

Why not book yourself in to the Drop-in Repair Cafe as well?

This will be run by Fast Fashion Therapy from 2pm-5pm on Sunday 16th and 23rd

The stylish, sustainable minds who are leading the way in the slow fashion movement will be giving talks and hosting discussions throughout the week. Here's your lineup:

Saturday 15th February, 1pm

Come and hear influencer and ex-shopaholic, Tess Montgomery, give her talk and Q & A: "From a Shopaholic to Curating my own Sustainable Capsule Wardrobe". 

Sunday 16th February, 2pm

Listen to a panel talk and take part in a Q & A on the subject: "A day in the life of three slow fashion entrepreneurs" with:

~ Louise Halswell, Founder of Fuud
~ Sophie Dunster, Founder of Gung Ho
~ Biancha Samuel, Founder of Hand of Gaia

Saturday 22nd Feb, 2pm

Aja Barber and Lora Gene will be hosting a talk and Q & A. about "Evaluating social media's impact on fashion".

Sunday 23rd Feb, 2pm

Come to a panel discussion on "How to slow down? Re-defining our personal relationship with fast fashion culture"

The panelists will be:

- Fashion influencer and powerhouse, Jade, creator of the @notbuyingnew instagram account

- Monika Poppy, the brains behind blog and popular Instagram account Sustainability Is Cool

- Eva Suszcenia-Whitt, the second hand shopper and fast fashion boycotter behind @evagoesthrifting

Exchange your old clothing for new-to-you pieces you'll love

The Clothes Swap

On Saturday 15th Feb at 2pm you can get involved in The Dress Change Pop-Up Clothes Swap!

The fabulous woman at The Dress Change will be hosting a pop-up clothes swap on the mezzanine. 

All you need to do to take part is to bring along three items of pre-loved clothing that are in good condition. You can bring shoes and accessories too. Have a browse through all the exciting pieces and exchange them for new-to-you pieces you'll love! 

Make sure you book your space to avoid queues and, if you'd like free entry, simply sign up for The Dress Change membership

Clothes Recycling Drop Off Point

Have you got a few old pieces you don't want to waste that are not in good enough condition to repair? The fabulous women from Love Not Landfill have donated their big yellow clothes bin for collections. They will welcome a donation of your worn out pieces.

Food & Drinks

If all this does not sound wonderful enough, there will be 100% plant-based food and drinks outlets all over the Boiler Room! 

In-between your events and shopping come and slow down even more by enjoying London’s finest street food, cocktails, mocktails, hot drinks and more… Bring an appetite along with your old clothes and stay for a tipple!
