The findings, conducted by the online tree gifting platform, Treedom, revealed that 60% of Millennials (24-35 year olds) and Gen Z (16-24 year olds) want to make sure this Christmas is an eco-friendly one.

What's more, this trend is being influenced by environmental events such as the Australian wildfires, with 50% of those surveyed saying this had an impact on how they celebrate Christmas.

20 million Brits young and old disclosed that they’ll be encouraging loved ones to shop sustainably this Christmas in a bid to be kinder to the planet and reduce individual impact.

Conscious Christmas

It's not just gifts that are going more sustainable this year. More and more of us are embracing other ways to be eco-friendly this December.

Treedom found that:

• 74% of us want to make Christmas more sustainable
• 43% want to reduce food waste
• 34% will be using plastic free wrapping paper
• 23% will be swapping to plastic free crackers
• 22% will be going plant based this Christmas

• 25 million Brits will also be cutting back their consumption by sending friends and relatives online experiences this year
