While Emma Watson and the cool kids might be kicking back in Veja trainers, there are plenty of other vegan shoe brands out there for guys, girls and anyone in between. Welcome to our autumn vegan shoe list, that includes everything from sneakers to stilettos.

Which vegan shoe brand suits you?

Mink

Thought vegan shoes mean dowdy brown things that are only good for standing in a field? Think again. Mink make vegan-friendly high heels that, quite frankly, Joan Collins would have approved of. These little numbers (sparkly and none) are all handmade in Italy by some of the finest shoemakers - these are the guys who also turn out heels for Christian Louboutin and the other haute couture houses, but with Mink they don’t use leather. Say hello to vegan wedges, flats, courts, heels, boots - you name it, Mink has it.

SQUARe027

Kicking the sports-luxe trend over the line is Italian vegan shoe brand SQUARe027. These awesome slip ons are made from a microfibre that’s a much softer alternative to leather and one that’s much more eco-friendly. The dying and tanning industries are one of the most polluting in the world, which is one of the impetuses behind this vegan label. Its non-toxic production process includes vegan leather, recycled materials and erm, wood. Yes really. Bright colours, quirky details and unisex styles make this a brand to watch.

Astral

Get out on an adventure with Astral’s pared back off road shoe. Made from recycled polyester and hemp, the Donner style is durable, breathable (and thankfully we hear, rot resistant). Started by a biodynamic farmer, Astral’s shoes are created to have a low eco-impact but are high tech enough to hit the ground running for those who want to spend the weekends in the wilderness.

Collection & Co

New British vegan shoe brand Collection & Co has a range of trend-lead heels and boots which are PETA approved and start at a reasonable price. It uses recycled and waste materials instead of leather and makes the shoes in small, family run factories in Portugal. Think power courts, beautiful brogues, graphic block heels and mustard ankle boots. A men’s collection is coming next year as are vegan accessories.

TOMS

Once an underground brand doing good, now a major one, TOMS, has a vegan collection for men and women that includes its classic slip ons as well as vegan trainers and its new faux shearling slipper range. While not all of its shoes are vegan, each pair does give another pair to a child in need and a third of the shoes are produced in the countries where TOMS gives back including Haiti and Ethiopia.

Bourgeois Boheme

For mens’ vegan shoes, Bourgeois Boheme fits the bill (as it does for women too). Here you’ll find handcrafted artisan footwear that’s not made with any animal products. BB creates styles from Oxfords to Chelsea boots via slip ons and sandals, many out of Pinatex, which is made from pineapple leaf fibres. It also uses everything from cork, seeds and waste materials to make its hardy, long lasting eco-friendly shoes. Everything is made in ethical factories in Portugal and you even get a personalised fitting.
