Do you know what’s in your sleepwear?
We spend on average a third of our lives in our PJs and sleep is a crucial time for our bodies to rejuvenate and recover.
But what you wear to bed could be holding you back from a good night’s sleep - or worse, affecting your health. And it’s all in the fabric.
Sustainable sleepwear brand Dagsmejan has come up with a solution.
At pebble, all of our products are independently recommended by our editors. If you buy something, we may earn an affiliate commission which goes to help run our publication. Learn more about this here.

“Getting too hot or too cold at night could be holding you back from a truly restful sleep”
The importance of good sleepwear
The nature of fast fashion means that clothes are made quickly using synthetic fibres that are often subjected to thousands of toxic substances, dyes and heavy metals.
According to Common Objective, ‘the entire process of creating textiles and garments uses at least 8,000 synthetic chemicals.’
That’s right from the beginning when raw materials are spun into threads, woven into fabric, dyed and then finished with softening and anti-wrinkle agents.
Even natural fibres can become toxic thanks to the pesticides sprayed on crops followed by dyes and chemicals such as formaldehyde and flame retardants.
These toxic chemicals can be absorbed by the skin and lead to long-term health problems like skin irritation, rashes, dermatitis, respiratory issues, infertility and cancer.
This is why it’s important to make sure you’re not exposing your body to harmful chemicals while you sleep.
Another reason why the right pyjamas matter is their ability to regulate temperature.
Getting too hot or too cold at night could be holding you back from a truly restful sleep.
That’s where Dagsmejan comes in.

Choose pyjamas that work with your body to help you sleep
Who is Dagsmejan?
Dagsmejan is the creator behind ‘the world’s most comfortable pyjamas.’
It uses a blend of natural fibres such as beechwood, eucalyptus and non-mulesing merino wool to make sleepwear that’s temperature-regulating and 4-8x more breathable than cotton.
They’re tagless with flat seams, ultra-soft and manage moisture to keep you dry and comfortable through the night.
Dagsmejan sleepwear is also safe to wear to bed as it’s free of toxic chemicals. The entire production process is OEKO-tex certified.
Eco yarns are bleached naturally with oxygen where possible and some yarns are also Bluesign certified.

“Dagsmejan operates on a slow fashion philosophy”
How is Dagsmejan sustainable?
Being mindful of exactly what’s in its sleepwear makes Dagsmejan a sustainable fashion brand.
It also goes deeper to address some of the key challenges and issues of the fashion industry.
These are:
Slow fashion instead of fast
Dagsmejan operates on a slow fashion philosophy which focuses on timeless and long-lasting designs that can be worn for years to come.
Once the pyjamas have reached the end of their lifecycle, their natural fibres take six months to biodegrade in comparison to synthetic fibres which can take up to 200 years.
Reducing textile waste
In the fashion industry, 15% of textile fabric is wasted in production.
Dagsmejan works with Lernwerk, a work reintegration organisation, to transform leftover fabric into smaller products and sleep accessories.
Efficient water consumption
2.6% of the global freshwater is used for growing and producing cotton.
The sleepwear brand avoids cotton and instead uses botanic fibres that require up to 20x less water.
Plus, it uses a closed-loop system where 99% of the process water is recycled.

Dagsmejan's Stay Cool pyjamas are perfect for cooler months
Reducing energy consumption
The fashion industry is responsible for 10% of global carbon emissions thanks to energy-intensive synthetic fibres, low-cost production and transport.
Dagsmejan’s production process takes place entirely in Europe. It only uses natural fibres and renewable energy wherever possible.
Responsibly sourced materials
All wood pulp used in Dagsmejan materials comes from responsibly managed forests and plantations which are certified with FSC® or PEFC™.
What’s more, it works with Lenzing, one of the top producers of sustainable and ethically sourced fibres worldwide.
Ethical working conditions
Dagsmejan uses factories in Europe which adhere to the standards set by the BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative) to ensure working conditions are fair and ethical.
All sleepwear is handmade by experienced garment workers and all production partners are OEKO-tex certified.
