Don't miss the Small is Beautiful Festival

News

In our obsession with the fastest, biggest, bigliest even, we sometimes forget that great things come in small packages. The Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales is holding the three day Small is Beautiful Festival (8-11 June) and this year's theme is Housing Justice.

Looking at alternative models for housing, the festival takes in new models of accommodation, whether fuelled by off grid, tiny homes or new technological developments and people who are finding cracks in the current housing system to grow something new.

Artists, comedians, architects and activists are all on the line up as is Bee Rowan, director of Strawbuild and Fran Edgerley from Assemble and Hazel Tilley from Granby 4 Streets CLT on their Turner-prize winning collaboration which turned empty homes into real housing.

There are also workshops - ranging from practical alternative house building skills to nature walks and even how to grow your own mushrooms.

The Centre for Alternative Technology is based in an old quarry in Snowdonia and has over 40 years experience of living sustainably. There are seven acres of displays and gardens you can interact with and learn from.
