Fancy going on an eco-friendly cycle route of local businesses? That’s exactly what OVO Energy has devised.
Newly launched in Glasgow, the OVO Bikes Green Route highlights some of the city’s top sustainable independent businesses that can be located via an illustrated map.
The new eco route celebrates the green energy supplier’s new nextbike scheme sponsorship in Glasgow.
OVO Bikes Green Route
OVO Energy has partnered with Radio 1 DJ and Glasgow local Arielle Free to curate the OVO Bikes Green Route.
On it, riders can find some of the city’s favourite local and eco-friendly businesses for a bite to eat, cup of Fairtrade coffee and shopping.
Popular stops include The Hug & Pint, a vegan eatery turned music venue; Emily Rose Vintage, a vintage shop and Och! Vegan x Hatch, the place to go for plant-based soap.
All stops on the route are an easy bike ride from one another and they can be distinguished by an official OVO plaque displaying their sustainable status.
Riders can also make use of the illustrated map designed by Margarida Esteves to find each destination on the route.
Adrian Letts, CEO at OVO, says: “At OVO, we’re on a mission to zero carbon. Our OVO Bikes arriving in Glasgow city are part of our Plan Zero strategy to create a carbon free world, whether that's the transport we use or the way we power our homes. Glasgow is a thriving city with so many fantastic, independent businesses who champion sustainable practices, which is why we wanted to highlight the good work they're doing through our OVO Bikes Green Route. Opting to travel around via bicycle, couldn’t be an easier and healthier way of discovering a city.”

OVO Bikes nextbike bike share scheme
The new green route has been put together to celebrate OVO Energy’s new sponsorship of Glasgow’s nextbike bike share scheme.
Riders can make use of shared bikes on a Pay As You Ride system as an environmentally-friendly way to travel in the city. This scheme is part of a wider goal to make Glasgow a carbon-neutral city by 2030.
Krysia Solheim, nextbike UK MD, said: “Since the scheme started in 2014, Glasgwegians have clocked up an incredible 1.2 million rentals around the city, helping to reduce CO2 emissions and congestion while also using cycling to help keep fit and healthy. We hope customers new and old will enjoy trying out the OVO Bikes Green Route."
