Ever stayed in a hotel that has moss and mushrooms growing out of its walls?
Welcome to 1Hotel South Beach, a sustainable take on the seaside resorts that line the Atlantic shore in Miami.
Neutral tones and plenty of light give this 600 room hotel a spacious, airy feel while living walls, driftwood and a warm welcome envelop you into a world of eco-chic luxury.
From wooden key cards to hosting ethical swimwear pop-ups, 1Hotel South Beach wears its green heart on its (T-shirt) sleeve.

The rooms
The rooms are where the eco and the luxury elements of 1Hotel really combine and work some natural magic. Hemp mattresses and ridiculously soft organic cotton are great flag-bearers for ethical luxury.
The driftwood decor gives each room an ocean freshness and the terrariums are a modern touch instead of flowers. Book a room with a balcony to taste the sea air.
The views
Let’s start with that 600ft of pristine South Beach beach frontage shall we? With two ocean-front pools and a rooftop pool there’s some serious debate over which spot has the best view over the Atlantic.

The service
The sun’s out, it always seems to be cocktail hour and the staff know the hottest yoga classes in town. American hotel customer service puts everyone else in the shade.
The menu
1Hotel South Beach has a few different places to eat, they all focus on farm-fresh food.
Five times James Beard winner Tom Colicchio has made his Miami debut with Beachcraft (book in for Sunday brunch and say hello bottomless Homestead Mimosas). Water on 1 focuses on Polynesian and Japanese with an emphasis on healthy small plates, while out back The Sand Box serves up Cantina style tacos - perfect for a hungover recovery lounge by the pool.
The bar
Tom on Collins (see what they did there?) is a great place to kick off an evening’s proceedings - the farm to bar concept sees you surrounded by greenery but able to watch all the comings and goings in the lobby whilst slurping seasonal cocktails.

The hotel has brought nature in and it's everywhere
The spa
Find the first Bamford Haybarn Spa in the States was installed here. Quintessential English countryside brand Bamford has brought its holistic touch to the large spa floor. Curl up after your organic treatment in the Woodland Room and you’ll emerge as fresh as a fawn.
The sustainable bit
There’s a commitment to the environment that goes beyond what you can see as a guest. The hotel only uses eco-friendly cleaning products and the staff uniforms are made from hemp.
The brand supports various environmental and social initiatives such as Housing Works, where they donate clothing left behind through its 1 Less Thing box.
1Hotels is a brand on a mission to bring the natural world indoors. Reuse and recycle permeates everything they do at every level.

3 reasons to book
Guests get free access to Miami’s Citybike scheme so you can freewheel down the strip to your heart’s content.
There are free yoga and meditation classes each month - some on the roof, others happen in the lobby which is lit by candles once a month.
You’re in the heart of famous South Beach with its pastel coloured Art Deco hotels and more beachside bars that you could throw a cocktail shaker at.
