Steam Bending Course in Sussex

Saturday 27 July
Workshop Nafisi Studio, Horsham, West Sussex, RH13 6PE 12:00PM - 6:00PM £140

Learn how to steam bend wood into wonderful shapes, from traditional barrels to experimental sculpture and furniture.

Woodworkers of all levels are welcome on this course, from first timers to more experienced steam benders.

Steam bending is a process of heating up the 'lignin liquid' and cellulose inside wood so that it can be bent into curved shapes.

You can make a functional object or a piece of sculpture to decorate your home or garden. Come with a specific project in mind as a sketch or from a picture. Or, you can improvise and we can come up with ideas as we walk through the four main bending techniques, creating something spontaneously!

All materials and lunch (with vegetarian options) and refreshments will be included. Those with unique dietary requirements are advised to bring a packed lunch.

You will get to take home:

  • The art pieces that you make during the day
  • A little intro to wood for steam bending
  • The four key types of bending methods
  • The knowledge of how to set up your own steam box at home so you can start bending by yourself should you want to.

Even if you've never sculpted before, join this course to enjoy the calming feeling of creating craft in the open air.
